Scotland visit North America for the FIFA World Cup this summer, ending a 28-year absence from the tournament’s biggest stage and giving the Tartan Army the moment they have been dreaming of since France 1998.
Steve Clarke’s side earned their place at the party in the most dramatic of fashions, topping UEFA’s Group C qualification group that included Denmark, Greece and Belarus.
Their ticket was secured with a memorable 4-2 victory over Denmark in their final qualifier, with two stoppage-time goals sparking jubilant scenes across Scotland.
It was an achievement that reflected Clarke’s determination and the growing quality running through his squad.
Ahead of the tournament, Clarke signed a new contract to take the national team all the way through to the 2030 World Cup cycle, a testament to the confidence the Scottish FA have in his continued leadership.
Scotland rounded off their preparations with an impressive 4-1 friendly victory over Curaçao at Hampden Park, though the camp was dealt a significant blow when Napoli midfielder Billy Gilmour suffered an injury during that fixture and was subsequently ruled out.
Manchester United teenager Tyler Fletcher, son of former Scotland captain Darren Fletcher, has been drafted in as his replacement.
Scotland have been drawn in Group C at the tournament, where five-time world champions Brazil, 2022 semi-finalists Morocco, and Haiti stand in their way.
