Ben Gannon-Doak has missed out on Scotland’s March squad, with the internationals deemed too soon, while Ryan Christie is included for friendlies against Japan and Cote d’Ivoire.

Steve Clarke has named his squad for this month, and the national team said in a statement that the games “come too soon” for the winger.

Gannon-Doak was on Bournemouth’s bench at Burnley on Saturday, an earlier-than-planned step after Tyler Adams suffered a knock the day before.

The 20-year-old sustained a hamstring injury early in the last World Cup qualifier against Denmark, shortly after assisting Scott McTominay’s opener, and required surgery that kept him sidelined.

Christie has 64 caps, and both he and Gannon-Doak started that win over Denmark, which sent Scotland to their first World Cup since 1998.

Christie, recently back from injury, is likely to feature when Scotland face Japan at Hampden on Saturday, 28 March, then Cote d’Ivoire on Tuesday, 31 March at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool. Gannon-Doak will hope for minutes before season’s end to press his case for North America.
