Sebastian Hoeneß ‘added to’ Liverpool shortlist after Slot dismissal

According to The Athletic, Liverpool have added VfB Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß to their shortlist for the vacant head coach role after Arne Slot’s sudden dismissal. The report says the Reds could hold talks with the 44-year-old shortly.

Hoeneß has impressed since 2023 with the Baden-Württemberg club, having claimed the DFB-Pokal and qualified for the Champions League twice.

Andoni Iraola is regarded as the clear favourite for the Liverpool job, and he is leaving AFC Bournemouth after three successful years.

If the Spaniard opts for Merseyside, it would be a major disappointment for Bayer Leverkusen. Sky Germany reported during the week that the Rhineland club were already in direct negotiations with Iraola.

RC Lens boss Pierre Sage is also considered to have an outside chance of landing the Anfield post.
