kicker reports that RB Leipzig see VfB Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeneß as a candidate to replace Marco Rose as the latter’s future at Red Bull becomes more uncertain.
Hoeneß previously worked as a youth coach at the club and with Leipzig struggling to hold onto a Champions League spot, they may part ways with Rose in the summer if they fail to qualify for Europe’s premier competition. If they do, Hoeneß is a top candidate.
It is widely reported that there is a release clause in Hoeneß’ contract at Stuttgart which was originally said to be around €5-6m but it is in fact closer to €8m. A decision on the nephew of Uli Hoeneß will be made by the end of April as Stuttgart want to continue to focus on trying to qualify for the Champions League once again. The result at the end of the season will be a key factor in Hoeneß’s decision.
If Hoeneß does leave, Stuttgart are already looking at potential replacements. SC Paderborn’s Lukas Kwasniok is said to be one of the candidates. The Paderborn head coach previously worked with Fabian Wohlgemuth when he was sporting director at the North-Rhine Westphalia club.
Cesc Fabregas of Como and Matthais Jaissle formerly of Red Bull Salzburg have also previously been linked with Stuttgart.
