Sébastien Pocognoli said Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Krépin Diatta remain champions in his eyes.

CAF announced on Tuesday that Senegal broke competition rules by leaving the pitch in protest, overturning the final result. Morocco are now listed as the official champions of the 2026 edition, and Senegal will appeal, with the country’s government denouncing corruption.

In January’s final, the host nation were awarded a last-gasp penalty in the dying seconds of normal time, prompting a walk-off. After a lengthy delay Brahim Diaz missed from the spot, and Senegal went on to win in extra time.

“For me, they are still the champions,” said Pocognoli. He added that he believes Camara and Diatta feel the same and that external context is beyond their control.

He said the ruling has not affected them much, and that Monaco are very proud of what the pair achieved.
