The Court of Arbitration for Sport has confirmed that Senegal have appealed the verdict to overturn the result of the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Senegal won the game 2-1 in extra-time in January in what was a chaotic final, with the Senegal players leaving the pitch for more than 15 minutes in protest after Morocco were awarded a late penalty, which was missed by Brahim Diaz.

The African football federation then decided to strip Senegal of the title earlier this month because of the events of the game, awarding the title to Morocco.

But Senegal are hoping to have that decision reversed.

Matthieu Reeb, CAS director general, said “CAS is perfectly equipped to resolve this type of dispute, with the assistance of expert and independent arbitrators.

“We understand that teams and fans are eager to know the final decision, and we will ensure that arbitration proceedings are conducted as swiftly as possible, while respecting the right of all parties to a fair hearing.”
