Not long ago, Mamadou Sarr was considered one of the brightest prospects in French football. But this week, he chose to represent Senegal. On loan from Chelsea to Strasbourg, Sarr received his first call-up from head coach Pape Thiaw, who had reached out to him at the end of last season to present his sporting project.

The Lions of Teranga head coach, a former teammate of Pape Sarr—father of the Strasbourg player—managed to make the right pitch, unlike the French Football Federation. According to revelations from L’Equipe, Sarr spoke with FFF official Marc Keller, who is also the president of Strasbourg. He also had a phone conversation with FFF president Philippe Diallo. But nothing came of it.
