Manchester United greatly disappointed their fans as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Going into the match with just two points in 18 Premier League games, Wolves would have been delighted to come away with a draw. On the other hand, this result is shameful for Man United, who showed a complete lack of desire up front.
Overall, it was a lackadaisical performance from Ruben Amorim’s side, who showed absolutely no sense of urgency, dropping two points against the league’s weakest team as a result.
Still, there was one positive aspect to take away from the match, and that was the performance of Senne Lammens.
The rock in defence
United’s goalkeeper enjoyed a respectable performance overall.
He made a total of three saves on the night, with two coming from within the box.
Perhaps one of Lammens’ standout moments came just after the hour mark, when Ladislav Krejci got on the end of a long ball and fired a half volley at goal. The United shotstopper did well to stop this attempt from close range, while also clearing the rebound as it fell to Yerson Mosquera.
Still, it wasn’t just his saves that were impressive.
Lammens’ game in numbers
While he had just 23 touches of the ball all evening, Lammens made 19 passes, 17 of which found their target for 89% accuracy.
Impressively, four of his five passes in the opposition half were accurate, while 13 of 14 passes in his own half were accurate.
He also proved to be an expert marksman from far, with five of his seven long balls proving accurate for a 71% accuracy.
The Belgian also made two ball recoveries.
Ultimately, it was a disappointing evening for United, who would have wanted to get three points from the match. Still, Lammens’ performance was reassuring, showing that his team’s defence remains in good hands.
