A comfortable 4-0 victory over Motherwell at Celtic Park gave us all some extra Christmas cheer and it was a well deserved victory. And the day got even better later in St Stephen’s Day with the hilarious happening over at Paisley.

Arne Engels eased our nerves with a perfectly executed spot kick on the stroke of half time, before we stamped our authority in the second half as goals from Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn and Reo Hatate gave us a resounding 4-0 victory to move 12 points clear for a few hours at least, or so we thought.

The day got even better as our rivals in second place suffered a 2-1 defeat at St Mirren to cement our 12 point lead at the top of the table.

It was quite apt it being Boxing Day as our noisy rivals ended up back in their box after weeks of shouting about how ‘they were back’ and the title challenge was ‘back on’ after Celtic’s title ‘wobble’ at Tannadice opened the door for 56 (sic).

A victory over St Johnstone on Sunday at Celtic Park will put us in a great position heading into the New Year, but for now we should just sit back and enjoy the outcome of a Beautiful Boxing Day.

And a reminder that ever since theRangers were promoted to the Scottish Premiership they have had the luxury of having fixture at Ibrox on St Stephen’s Day – until Brendan Rodgers called out the SPFL fixture planners. That resulted in Celtic getting a home match yesterday and theRangers having to make the shortest trip that those same fixture planners could offer them.

Would Celtic have been at Motherwell and St Mirren at Ibrox without Brendan’s intervention? Who knows but his intervention certainly made sure Celtic got a home game on St Stephen’s Day and forced them into an away fixture as a result.

May the festivities continue.
