Clubs from Brazil's Série A and Série B have expressed support for Ceará president João Paulo Silva after a criminal act involving his daughter on Thursday 25.

According to Globo.com, Silva said in a social media post that his daughter received at her acting class a package containing a bomb and a letter attacking him, and that she suffered a panic attack.

Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense, all in Série A, condemned the incident. Fortaleza, Ferroviário and the Federação Cearense de Futebol also issued statements of repudiation on Thursday, offering support to Silva and his family.

Part of Ceará's fanbase had recently protested outside the club in Porangabuçu. On one occasion police intervened with stun grenades, with footage spreading quickly on social media. In one video, supporters asked for the clashes to stop because children were present.

This season Ceará have been eliminated from almost all competitions and are competing only in Série B. The club have appointed Daniel Paulista as head coach.

Ceará are scheduled to face Juventude on Sunday 28 in the 15th round of Série B of the Campeonato Brasileiro. The match will be played at Estádio Alfredo Jaconi, kick-off 16:00.
