The Serie A president, Ezio Simonelli, said on Thursday that AC Milan v Como should go ahead in Perth, Australia.

Despite La Liga’s U-turn on taking a game to Miami, Serie A has not changed course. Simonelli delivered the update on Italia Uno around the first Supercoppa Italiana semi-final between Milan and Napoli, with the fixture scheduled for eight February.

The Asian Football Confederation required AFC officials before approving the move. Simonelli said there were doubts about using foreign referees, but Pierluigi Collina offered assurances over their quality.

It would be the first time Serie A stages a league match abroad, with only minor details still to settle, particularly marketing.

The game counts towards matchweek 24 and cannot be played at San Siro, which is set to host the opening ceremony for the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics from six to 22 February 2026.
