Benjamin Sesko’s agent has hit out at interim Manchester United manager Michael Carrick over his client’s role at the club.
The 22-year-old striker has been gradually finding his feet since joining United from RB Leipzig in a staggering £73.7 million deal last summer.
He had a rough start to his career at United, scoring just twice in his first 16 Premier League games.
But he has started delivering the goods over the past few weeks, scoring 10 goals in 28 games across all competitions. Nine of them have come in 26 Premier League matches.
The Slovenian international has also scored five goals in his last eight Premier League games, playing a crucial role in United’s push for Champions League qualification.
Despite his improved form in front of goal, Sesko has started just 13 of his 26 league games.
However, he has been more impactful when coming off the bench, with four of his last five goals coming when the striker has come on as a substitute.
That includes match-winners against Fulham and Everton and a late leveller versus West Ham United.
Sesko’s off-the-bench form has earned him the ‘super sub’ tag under Carrick, but that hasn’t gone down well with the player’s agent.
The player’s representative, Elvis Basanovic, would prefer his client to be known as something better.
“If you ask me about this name, I don’t like it,” Basanovic said (via the Mirror). “I like ‘super striker’ much more. “I think Benjamin is a super striker.
“He has started 13 games this year, coming off the bench in 13 games. He scored half of his goals when he started the game and half when he came off the bench.
“We can see that he is a complete striker and Benjamin is someone who deserves the name ‘super striker.’”
Sesko came off the bench for the final 19 minutes of the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth last time out before the club confirmed that he has been carrying a knock.
The latest setback forced Sekso to withdraw from the Slovenia squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Hungary and Montenegro.
He’ll be hoping to be available for United’s Premier League contest against Leeds United on April 13.
