An agreement is in place for Juan Iglesias to join Sevilla on a free in the next window, signing for four seasons, according to ABC de Sevilla.

Antonio Cordón moved early to lock the deal, which would otherwise have grown costlier after the defender’s standout display at the Santiago Bernabéu against Vinícius drew immediate interest from several European sporting directors. The message to suitors has been firm, the commitment to Sevilla is already signed.

Unlike Alfon, whose deal included a five million euro release clause, Iglesias’s contract contains no such provision. Any club wanting the right-back must negotiate directly with Sevilla.

Miguel Ángel Ramírez, now Malmö coach and a key figure in Independiente del Valle, first spotted Patrick Mercado. He has described the new Sevilla player as a midfielder who operates between the lines, arrives in the area and strikes set pieces well, and says his development was carefully managed. Mercado was named Ecuador’s best player in 2025.

Ramírez also urged caution over his adaptation, noting the leap from Ecuador to LaLiga and to Sevilla is demanding, citing Moisés Caicedo’s need for a loan in Belgium before shining in Europe. Even so, he views the move as a brave investment for Nervión’s future.
