It has been reported by journalist Alex Crook that Leeds United’s latest offer for Shea Charles has been rejected by Southampton.

It’s believed that the bid was below the reported £23 million figure that had been touted earlier in the week.

The Saints’ valuation is also much higher than the £23 million mark regardless, with intense speculation now surrounding the midfielder’s future.

It remains to be seen whether Leeds will continue their pursuit of the Northern Irishman following this latest setback.

Crystal Palace have also been linked with a deal for Charles, and could look to hijack the move, while Manchester United’s interest is thought to be distant at this point.

Charles made 31 regular league appearances last season, contributing three goals and two assists.

Southampton fans have praised the decision to knock back this latest offer from the Whites, suggesting that the 22-year-old is worth more than £23 million.

Some are surprised at Leeds returning with such a meagre offer, claiming Charles could be worth more than the £38 million they received for Mateus Fernandes in 2025.

Meanwhile, plenty of fans believe that Southampton should be trying to keep their best players, and that Charles is someone they can build a team around.

Southampton have until 1 September to complete any of their remaining transfer business, with Charles now entering the final 12 months of his current contract.

But even still, Southampton have a weak negotiating position, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Charles pushed for a move as the summer goes on, as the chance to play in the Premier League will also be quite enticing.
