Sheffield United have made a decision on the future of four players this January

Sheffield United are open to the sales of four players this January as they look to move on from their disastrous summer recruitment drive ahead of a potential push for the play-offs in the second-half of the season.

According to The Star, Alex Matos is among the names that could depart Bramall Lane this month, despite only arriving in the summer from Chelsea.

Mihail Polendakov, Christian Nwachukwu and Ehije Ukaki are all also available on permanent transfers this winter market, with the trio having been snapped up as part of the side's controversial AI-led recruitment strategy.

Sheffield United replaced Chris Wilder with Ruben Selles in the summer before bringing in a number of fresh faces to the first team squad, but a poor start to the campaign led to the 58-year-old’s return as head coach.

Wilder has turned around the team’s form, but the likes of Matos and Nwachukwu have struggled for game time since his return.

Sheffield United quartet up for sale

Sheffield United are reportedly willing to listen to offers for this quartet of out-of-favour players this month after they’ve struggled to impress at Bramall Lane.

Matos was signed in the summer from Chelsea, with the midfielder agreeing a three-year deal as part of the move.

However, the 21-year-old has so far made just eight appearances in the Championship, and he hasn’t started a game since the 1-0 loss to Hull City back in October.

Meanwhile, the trio of Polendakov, Nwachukwu and Ukaki were all brought in from Bulgaria as part of their data-driven recruitment policy.

The three summer signings have failed to make a single appearance in the league this season, and they are all now understood to be available on the market.

Sheffield United are believed to be keen to draw a line in the sand on their disastrous summer spending, and have decided that all four players could be sold for the right price before the 2 February deadline.

Next up for the Blades is a home clash against Oxford United on Sunday in a 12pm kick-off.

Sheffield United will do well to cash in on all four of these players

If Sheffield United receive any offers for these four players, then they will do well to offload all of them.

Matos may garner some interest from within the Championship given his loan spell at Oxford United last season, and the experience he now has at this level. His time in the Steel City has been nothing short of a disaster, however, and the Blades are paying the price for missteps made by both Selles and the hierarchy, with Wilder now looking to re-shape the squad in his mold in an effort to revive the season.

But the other three could all end up stuck at Bramall Lane, unless moves back to Bulgaria are on the cards.

Last summer was a really poor window from Sheffield United, but Wilder deserves a lot of credit for turning things around in recent weeks and getting the team back on track.
