FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit has given his verdict on who could replace Ruben Selles as manager in the event he's sacked
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Ruben Selles is already under immense pressure at Sheffield United after a disastrous start to the new Championship season.
The Blades are rock bottom in the table after the opening four fixtures, having lost each game so far.
The Spaniard was appointed as manager in the summer after the Yorkshire outfit missed out on Premier League promotion with a play-off final loss to Sunderland.
Supporters expressed their dissatisfaction with the club’s performances under Selles by singing he’d be sacked in the morning during their 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough last Saturday.
When asked who he’d like to see replace Selles, if sacked, FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, from Blades Ramble, named Sean Dyche as an ideal successor.
However, he believes someone like Steve Cooper or Gary O’Neil would be a more realistic candidate at this stage.
“For me, it’s got to be Sean Dyche,” Jimmy told Football League World.
“But I’ll be honest, I’m not sure he’ll want to come, and I won’t blame him.
“Steve Cooper would be my next choice, I think there’s too much water under the bridge for Danny Rohl personally.
“So, Sean Dyche would be ideal, Steve Cooper.
“I think it’ll end up being someone like Gary O’Neil, if I’m honest, and I wouldn’t be upset with that either.
“It’s just a matter of time now, it’s inevitable what’s going to happen, it’s just how long do the board give him.”
Next up for Sheffield United is a trip to face Ipswich Town on 12 September in an 8pm kick-off when the league returns from the international break.
Selles hasn’t made it work at Sheffield United so far, but he hasn’t been helped by the club’s recruitment strategy.
A lot of business was done late in the window after key players like Anel Ahmedhodzic and Vini Souza were sold.
Potentially losing Gus Hamer on deadline day would only make matters worse, with serious questions asked over the decision-making at Bramall Lane right now.
The appointment of Dyche could potentially be great for Sheffield United, but all of the names mentioned were available in the summer, so it would reflect particularly poorly if a change is made to bring in any of these coaches after just four games.
