Sheffield United have been linked with a move for Amario Cozier-Duberry
Sheffield United are stepping up their interest in Bolton Wanderers loanee Amario Cozier-Duberry.
According to The Argus, the Blades are keen on signing the Brighton youngster in the January window amid his impressive performances in League One.
It was reported in the summer that the forward was on the Championship side’s radar, but he made the switch to the Whites.
Cozier-Duberry previously spent time on loan in the second division with Blackburn Rovers last season. , where he made 22 appearances, including six as a starter.
However, he opted to take the step down to the third tier with Bolton, where he has proven a key part of Steven Schumacher’s plans so far. The former Arsenal prodigy has lit up League One with a series of eye-catching early-season displays and has already returned three goals and two assists across all competitions.
It has been reported that Sheffield United are stepping up their interest in Cozier-Duberry following his bright start to the new season.
It’s believed that the Yorkshire outfit sent recruitment chief Jamie Hoyland to watch the forward in action in Bolton’s recent clash against Wigan Athletic.
Schumacher’s side clinched an important 4-1 victory over their rivals, but Cozier-Duberry did not contribute a goal or an assist in his 90 minutes on the pitch.
It’s understood that Brighton's loan manager, Gordon Greer, has also been to Bolton to take a closer look at the player as speculation persists surrounding his future.
Brighton will be able to recall the forward when the market reopens in 2026, which would allow the Blades to swoop in and secure a deal to sign him on a temporary basis.
Cozier-Duberry has earned a lot of praise for his performances in League One so far this season, contributing two goals and two assists from nine appearances.
Schumacher has responded to the links with Sheffield United, praising the impact he’s made while indicating his lack of surprise at the transfer rumours.
“We knew we’d signed a good player on loan because we’d done our homework on him,” said the Bolton manager, via The Argus.
“We had got character references from people who had worked with him at Blackburn last season who said that coming down to this level, where he might get more space and perhaps not come up against as many physical full-backs and wing-backs, would mean he could really shine.
“I can't say I'm fully surprised, but I'm delighted with how it's gone for him he's been a joy to work with.
“I met his mum and dad at Orient the other day and told them he's a credit to them. He comes in every day with a smile on his face.”
Bolton will be keen to keep him for the whole season as they eye promotion to the Championship.
Next up for Schumacher’s side is a trip to face Northampton Town on 27 September in a 3pm kick-off.
Cozier-Duberry is proving a great addition to Bolton’s first team squad this season, so the club will be concerned about this interest from Sheffield United.
It will be up to the Whites to prove that remaining with the club will be the best option for the youngster’s development in the short-term.
But if Brighton want him back in the Championship for the second half of the campaign, then there won’t be much the League One side can do about it.
