This week saw Lys Mousset join a third permanent club since leaving Sheffield United. This got us thinking, almost seven years on from the summer of 2019. Where are all of the summer signings of the 2019-2020 now?

Lys Mousset

Moose. We’ll always have that 2019 purple patch. The former AFC Bournemouth striker, who scored nine goals in 53 matches for the Blades, initially left Bramall Lane on loan to Salernitana.

Before heading permanently to Vfl Bochum.

Without playing a game for the German side, he was loaned out to the French side, Nimes. Mousset eventually arrived in Ireland to play for Bohemians last year.

His move to Ireland came after a thirteen-month period without a club. In his final game for the club on 10 May 2025, Mousset scored his only goal for Bohs. The Bohemians manager stated to the Irish Examiner that they struggled to get the striker fit, leading to his departure.

Now he has joined Vancouver FC in the Canadian Premier League for the 2026 season. With a reported option to extend for 2027. The North American outfit was founded in 2022. Best of luck in Canada, Mousset.

Oli McBurnie

The most expensive of the 2019 summer additions, McBurnie was the Blades’ joint top goalscorer in the Premier League alongside Mousset in the 2019-2020 season with six goals.

Following the Blades’ relegation in 2021, McBurnie led the Blades back to the Premier League in 2023. His 13 league goals combining with Iliman Ndiaye’s 14 to create a potent attacking threat in the second tier.

After one last go at the Premier League with the Blades, where he again finished as joint top-scorer this time with Ben Brereton Diaz, but again with six goals. McBurnie moved to La Liga to play for Las Palmas.

A fluency in the Spanish language and 11 goal contributions later. McBurnie returned to the Championship. After a bunch of return rumours Conor Coady and Kyle Walker would be proud of. McBurnie did end up back in Yorkshire only this time with Hull City.

The forward currently has the most goal contributions in the division with 20 and is challenging for the golden boot. As Hull City are aiming for a playoff finish and a first return to the Premier League since 2016-2017.

Callum Robinson

One half of the infamous Robinson-Burke swap deal, Callum Robinson’s time at Bramall Lane started well. He scored in the Blades comeback draw at Stamford Bridge scoring in the 46th minute as United went on to draw 2-2.

He would only score one more goal for the Blades against AFC Fylde in the FA Cup. Before sealing a half-season loan move to West Bromwich Albion.

Following the summer of 2020 swap-deal involving Oliver Burke, Robinson enjoyed a few seasons with the Baggies. Overall, he managed 29 goals in 95 games at the Hawthorns before moving to Cardiff City in September 2022.

Robinson remains in the Welsh capital as the Bluebirds are on course to return to the Championship. The 31-year-old has scored seven times despite only starting six games.

Luke Freeman

After a brilliant season with QPR in the Championship, Freeman signed for the Blades to take on the top flight. Unfortunately, the move didn’t work out for Freeman with the midfielder only making 11 Premier League appearances. Before being loaned out to Nottingham Forest.

He would play eight further matches for the Blades in the second tier, heading out on a second loan to Millwall, only playing one game at The Den.

Freeman stayed down south first appearing 26 times for Bedfordshire’s Luton Town before joining his most recent club Barnet. Since 2024, Freeman has been without a club.

Ben Osborn

The versatile Ben Osborn used his adaptability to last half a decade at Bramall Lane. When his 134 games, five goals and eight assists came to an end. Osborn headed to Derby County his current parent club.

After 25 matches for the Pride Park side, Osborn was loaned out to Stockport County this season to reunite with former Blades captain Oliver Norwood. The pair are now looking to lead Stockport into the second tier through the playoffs. If they can achieve this both could return to Bramall Lane in the opposition ranks next season.

Michael Verrips

A rare signing from the continent after leaving KV Mechelen in Belgium. Verrips was a back-up goalkeeper and played four times for the Blades earning two clean sheets.

During his debut in the FA Cup, Verrips had to be taken off after treatment and a concussion check being replaced by Dean Henderson after 40 minutes.

After leaving Bramall Lane, Verrips headed to his native Holland joining FC Emmen, Fortuna Sittard and Groningen. For the past two years he’s been at his current club FCV Dender EH where he has made 10 clean sheets in 44 appearances.

Phil Jagielka

Moving on to another goalkeeper (kind of). The former Blades academy graduate returned to Bramall Lane at the youthful age of 36. A month later he would turn 37.

Jagielka played 22 games for the club during his return to Bramall Lane taking his total to a combined 305 games. Following the Blades’ relegation back to the second tier, Jagielka headed south ever so slightly for 20 games at Derby Country. Before two seasons back in red-and-white in the Potteries.

A late career resurgence for Jagielka, half a century of appearances for Stoke and a goal against the Blades. He can now be seen playing in the Icon Series of Golf alongside Phil Jones and other former players.

Ravel Morrison

The once great Manchester United hopeful arrived at Bramall Lane on a free. With his arrival came some hope that Wilder could work his magic and rejuvenate Morrison’s career. Unfortunately, Morrison only managed four games but did get one assist.

A spell in Holland with ADO Den Haag, a decent return to the EFL with Derby County where he made over 38 appearances and got nine goal contributions. In one of his best spells of his career.

After a spell in the USA with DC United, Morrison headed to Precision where he played with former Blades defender Matt Lowton.

He now plays in the UAE’s second division for Arabian Falcons FC with Jonjo Shelvey.

Mo Besic

Besic was one of the Blades’ two loan signings in the summer of 2019. A temporary loan from Everton, Besic played 13 times for United and scored once against Millwall in the FA Cup. With many Blades wanting to see more minutes for the midfielder.

A spell at Ferencvaros which ended in 2024, saw him out of the game for six months. Until, he joined FK Spartak Subotica in Serbia in January 2025. He has played 18 times for them so far this season.

Dean Henderson

Saving the most successful post his time at the Blades until last. Henderson returned for a second loan spell at Bramall Lane as well as a first attempt at the Premier League.

Henderson has become acclimatised with the top flight in the years since. 103 appearances deep at Crystal Palace, Henderson is now an FA Cup and FA Community Shield winner. After spells at Forest and back at his original parent club Manchester United.

It’s good to see him reach the heights many Blades believed he could.
