Sheffield Wednesday's takeover situation is headed towards a conclusion, with a potential timeline emerging between James Bord and the EFL.

Relegation was confirmed over the weekend but Sheffield Wednesday supporters have reasons to be positive about their longer-term outlook, with the James Bord saga dominating most of the season for Wednesday after Dejphon Chansiri's regime ended with administration.

Bord buying Wednesday will cost more than £30 million, but the situation has not been resolved. That's because the EFL are still yet to approve Bord's Wednesday bid amid the Owners’ and Directors’ Test and other required checks to complete the process.

Prospective Wednesday owner Bord is being sued by Jonathan Cohen and that has complicated matters somewhat. However, an end goal now looks in sight for them before the end of the 2025/26 Championship season.

Yesterday, ahead of the defeat at Bramall Lane, a timeline emerged regarding Bord's potential takeover of Wednesday, with a possibility emerging that it could take six weeks for the EFL to complete the various tests and checks.

Football League World spoke to our resident Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna for his immediate reaction to the latest information.

He said: "In regards to the Sheffield Wednesday takeover, the one thing I have disregarded a long time ago is timescales. With the due diligence going on for this takeover, who knows?

"Who knows, really, when it'll be over? And whether it will go through or not? That's up to the EFL, so I'm not going to get excited, nor despondent, and put any faith in timescales.

"Because what will be will be. Yeah, you know, we just have to let it play out. Obviously, as a fanbase, we are just desperate for it to get sorted as soon as possible.

"But date stuff like, 'oh, it could be done in six weeks', I'm not really going to pay attention to it. I just hope there is a brighter future.

"A brighter future and a successful takeover. But when that will happen — who knows?"

Carlton Palmer makes Sheffield United promotion claim amid Sheffield Wednesday ownership plea

Carlton Palmer played 229 games for Sheffield Wednesday and he has weighed in on the situation, pleading for "good new owners" to come in and improve things at "our club".

However, Palmer is also hoping for Sheffield United to gain promotion via the play-offs under Chris Wilder, with that considered "great for Sheffield". Irrespective of Wednesday's situation off the pitch, many fans will not want their cross-city rivals to go up.

If Wednesday find their fortunes change, they could well challenge for promotion in 2026/27. That could see a return of the Steel City derby in 2027/28 and most Owls fans, therefore, will desire for their rivals to remain in the second tier.
