With their transfer embargo lifted, Sheffield Wednesday have identified Harry Amass and Toby Collyer of Manchester United as potential new signings.
Sheffield Wednesday are in the hunt for two loan deals with Manchester United for Harry Amass and Toby Collyer as they look to bolster the numbers following the lifting of their transfer embargo.
Sheffield Wednesday have finally had some relief, with the news that their transfer embargo has been lifted, and the very first thing they need to do is build up their squad numbers. Wednesday had been reduced to just 16 senior players by summer departures and an inability to bring anyone in.
But the club's Premier League solidarity payment has been received, and the club have spent this on paying money due to players and other clubs, and with the lifting of the embargo, they are able to bring players in again, with the first two players having been identified as potential loan agreements being Harry Amass and Toby Collyer of Manchester United.
The Sheffield Star reports that Wednesday are in the hunt for the signature of Amass and Collyer, two young Manchester United players who are available for loan this summer. Both have some Premier League experience, with Amass having been left out of United's recent pre-season friendly matches so that he could consider his options for the coming season.
Despite the lifting of the embargo, which will allow Wednesday to finally attempt to bolster Henrik Pedersen's squad in what has been a disastrous summer for the club, they still have hoops to jump through to get these two talented young players to Hillsborough.
Their financial position means that any players they wish to bring in will have to be referred to the EFL Club Financial Reporting Unit for clearance.
Harry Amass and Toby Collyer are talented young teenagers who've both represented England at youth levels and have Premier League experience with Manchester United.
Both players have strikingly similar trajectories in terms of their careers so far. Amass is a full-back, while Collyer is a defensive midfielder. Both started at the academies at other clubs - Watford for Amass, Brighton for Collyer - before transferring to Manchester United.
Amass has been capped by England at under-15, under-16, under-17 and under-18 levels, while Collyer has at under-16 and under-20 levels. And Amass has made five Premier League appearances for Manchester United while Collyer has made six.
The pair are both held in an extremely strong regard, and that should serve as a real source of excitement for Wednesdayites if any deals can get over the line in what remains of this summer's transfer window.
With such a small squad, there may be questions to ask over whether talented teenagers are what Sheffield Wednesday need at the moment. But it is at least progress, that they're even able to bring in anybody at all. The payments made to bring their financial affairs up to date have at least restored a small degree of normality to the club, and just in time, for the start of the new season.
