Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been warned not to get carried away with David Storch developments.

David Storch is planning to complete his Sheffield Wednesday takeover by 1 May, which would give the South Yorkshire club light at the end of a difficult tunnel.

The Owls remain in administration following Dejphon Chansiri's woeful ownership, but Storch's Arise consortium are eager to rescue the S6 outfit's future before the end of the season.

Wednesday host West Bromwich Albion at Hillsborough on 2 May, and there will be a special atmosphere if they exit administration before taking on the Baggies.

However, the Owls have already encountered further issues since Chansiri was disqualified, as former preferred bidder James Bord's takeover deal collapsed.

Storch has impressed key figures at Hillsborough Stadium, including boss Henrik Pedersen, adding to a feeling that he can create a brighter future for Wednesday.

However, until the American's takeover is officially signed, Owls supporters can only remain cautiously optimistic, following the heartache imposed upon them by Chansiri.

Football League World asked our Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, how he is feeling about the takeover situation as 1 May approaches.

McKenna told FLW: "The 1 May deadline is approaching. Natural instinct as a Wednesday fan is just not to get too carried away. There is always that trepidation that something could go wrong.

"I have stated that I do have confidence in these guys and have been impressed with them so far. We aren't a fan base based for good luck, and you just don't want to get too far ahead of yourself.

"You almost feel like you would be cursing it, but realistically, there are reasons to be confident that this will go over the line, and in May time we should be starting a rebuild with new owners, but it is a case of just waiting until it is finally confirmed, everything's signed, and they are in offices in Hillsborough."

The indications at Hillsborough suggest that Storch is still on course to complete his Wednesday takeover by 1 May, which would allow the Owls to become active in the summer transfer window at the earliest possible opportunity.

If the Arise consortium complete their deal by the start of next month, Storch will only be subject to the EFL's Owners' and Directors' Test, which he is already undergoing.

However, if the American's transaction is not done by the start of next month, he will also have to undergo the Independent Football Regulator's checks.

Meanwhile, one of the biggest question marks currently regarding Wednesday's future is whether they will be deducted 15 points at the start of their League One campaign.

Courtesy of Chansiri's wrongdoings, the Owls have been docked 18 points this term, which fast-tracked their relegation from the Championship to the third tier.

Because Storch's bid fell below the amount required to pay creditors 25p in the pound, the South Yorkshire club could be set for a 15-point penalty, unless he makes an agreement with Chansiri, who is the main creditor.

Meanwhile, as alluded to by McKenna, Wednesday supporters should remain confident that the Arise takeover will be completed, but nothing is a certainty for a club who have been through so much hardship in recent months.
