Sidny Lopes Cabral has been awarded the 2026 World Cup goal of the tournament for his superb strike for Cape Verde against Argentina in the last 32. The match finished 2-3 after extra time.
According to L'Équipe, the 23-year-old full-back headed a 12-player shortlist that included Kylian Mbappé for his group-stage effort against Senegal.
Cape Verde took the Albiceleste to extra time, then Lopes Cabral levelled with a fierce shot from the corner of the area. Argentina reclaimed the lead a few minutes later to win 2-3.
Lopes Cabral plays his club football for Trabzonspor in Türkiye.
He follows Richarlison, recognised for his overhead kick for Brazil against Serbia in 2022, and Benjamin Pavard for his half-volley against Argentina in 2018.
