Adem Zorgane, throughout his time at Charleroi, was one of the best midfielders in Belgian football. Every summer it was expected that the Algerian would leave the Pro League, but he ended up staying in Charleroi for four seasons. Last summer, he finally got his move. However, he ended up remaining in Belgium. Zorgane swapped Charleroi for Brussels in what was a rare move for Union St Gilloise, but one they have been willing to take in recent seasons.

Union have shown incredibly scouting nous to pick up unknown players from the likes of the German regional leagues or the Estonian top flight, but Zorgane was different. He was a known quanitity, and the only real question surrounding him was whether or not he would be able to step up and help a side challenge for the title. In short, that question has been answered with a resounding yes.

Zorgane has scored four goals and provided seven assists for Union St Gilloise this season. Goals have never been what Zorgane is about, but his two against Anderlecht proved crucial in maintaining Union’s lead at the top of the table. Zorgane, who is still only 26, has transitioned into the Union midfield seamlessly, remaining one of the midfielders most involved in a sides build up in the Belgian Pro League. According to FotMob’s data, Zorgane has more touches than 91% of midfielders in the league. With a pass success rate of just over 85%, he remains one of the most efficient players with the ball as well.

This summer, Zorgane will be hoping to get a spot in the Algeria team at the 2026 World Cup. If he does, he could be travelling with the Desert Foxes off the back of a domestic double. Union lead Club Brugge by a single point in the Belgian Pro League and will face Anderlecht in the cup final. Winning both will confirm that Zorgane made the right decision to remain in Belgium, while also confirm that Union made the right decision in signing a known quantity.
