Sinayoko refused to train on Wednesday after AJ Auxerre rejected a proposal from Paris FC. According to L'Équipe, the row centres on a written promise agreed last summer and now complicated by a 14 July expiry.

The 26-year-old hit 12 Ligue 1 goals as Auxerre stayed up in May, including six in the final seven games. After that, both parties accepted he could move on this summer.

They chose to continue together for one more season and agreed a one-year extension to June 2027, announced in January, designed to protect the club and give him a favourable exit route.

Through chief executive Baptiste Malherbe, Auxerre put in writing that he could leave in this window if an offer of 8 M€, bonuses included, arrived. The document’s legal force is unclear in France, where release clauses are banned.

That proposal arrived this week, but Auxerre judged it insufficient given his rise in value after his best season. The letter has fuelled misunderstanding and the situation hardened on Wednesday.

Sinayoko had been tracked by Lens, Lille, Saint-Étienne in the event of promotion, and Ipswich. Internally, his new representatives were told the figures required, and the club still consider the exit pledge to be in effect. He outlined his position to team-mates and head coach Will Still.
