Flamengo have moved from punts to proven names since Juninho, investing almost R$ 400 million under Bap’s leadership.
According to Globo.com, Juninho arrived from Qarabag on 15 January 2025 as the first signing of Bap’s tenure, hinting at an atypical market plan. He featured in 32 matches and scored four goals in 2025, then was sold to Pumas for 5 million euros, R$ 32 million, recouping the fee. Indicated by Filipe Luís, he never secured a regular role.
From that point, Flamengo targeted Europe but avoided lesser known bets. The least heralded signing was Emerson Royal, bought from Milan after spells at Barcelona and Tottenham, signed to add depth and still short of an undisputed starting place under Filipe Luís.
Others arrived with pedigree, including a centre-back who is a two-time Champions League and world champion, a Champions League and Euro-winning midfielder, a playmaker and a forward with standout spells at a major Spanish club, a midfielder likened to Neymar and valued in Europe, a centre-back standout in Brazil, and an award-winning goalkeeper in Portugal.
Bap initially vetoed marquee deals until the finances stabilised. In the second window, spending accelerated to a club record. Since Juninho, Flamengo’s outlay totals R$ 393 million.
Post-Juninho business lists Danilo at R$ 16.8 million in signing-on fees, Jorginho at R$ 23.8 million including commission, and Saúl on undisclosed terms. Emerson Royal cost R$ 58 million, Samuel Lino R$ 143 million, Jorge Carrascal R$ 77 million, Vitão R$ 65 million including a R$ 30 million debt forgiveness for Thiago Maia, and goalkeeper Andrew R$ 9.4 million.
