The Blues could end up beating the current league record for most points in a season.

EFL pundit Don Goodman has said that he will be "disappointed" if Birmingham City don't reach the 100-point mark this season in League One and backed them to near Wolves' record.

With a summer transfer window expenditure of £20-25 million and an annual wage bill of £16 million, according to reports from The Athletic, Birmingham have financially blown their league competitors out of the water. It stands to reason then that they should be able to do so on the pitch. So far, they have.

Other than one draw against Reading on the first day of the season, in which they initially were behind and needed a late penalty from Alfie May to salvage a point, the Blues have been perfect in the league. They've picked up 22 points from a possible 24 to start the new season.

Birmingham should get 100 points this season

A three-figure points tally is what Chris Davies' side should achieve by the end of the 2024/25 league campaign, according to Goodman.

Wolverhampton Wanderers hold the current record for points in a League One season with 103. That record has stood for over a decade but is in serious danger of being broken.

Birmingham haven't been able to reach highs like that throughout their history. In fact, they haven't even had a 90-point season yet; their best total was 89, and that came 30 years ago when they won what was Division Two.

Even still, the Sky Sports pundit expects the Blues to bring up their maiden ton before the end of the season.

The American-owned side showed off their class to the whole country when they recently took on Wrexham AFC, who are owned by North American actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny. City won the game 3-1 and displayed exactly why Goodman has such lofty expectations of them.

He said, of the recent match: "It was a brilliant occasion, the atmosphere was great and there was so much glitz and glamour with Hollywood A-listers and NFL stars.

"It shone a light on League One, which is brilliant. The game lived up to the hype; it was an excellent match. The exposure it brings to the lower levels of English football is amazing.

"Ultimately it all comes back to what happens on the pitch, with both teams harbouring ambitions of promotion. In Birmingham's case, it would be a massive underperformance if they didn't win the division. They've just won six in a row and came from behind against both Peterborough United and Wrexham.

"I've got no doubts that Birmingham City are a Championship team in waiting like Ipswich were, but I'm not saying they'll win consecutive promotions. For me, I'd be disappointed if Birmingham City don't get 100 points and break some League One records."

100 points will be a great achievement for Birmingham, even with their huge spending

To reach that mark in an EFL season, the team in question has to average roughly 2.17 points per game.

There are 138 points up for grabs throughout the whole campaign, leaving a 38-point margin of error for Birmingham. They've already dropped two points, so they only have 36 spare points to play with, but their points per game average is already higher than it needs to be (2.75).

With the way that they have been going, it is hard to see them dropping any points at all. But they aren't perfect; nobody is. There will be moments of complacency along the long road ahead of them. Keeping that focus throughout will be extremely tough.

Even though their team is SO much better than everyone else, bringing up their maiden ton will still be something to behold.
