‘Sloppy’, ‘immature’, ‘not good enough’: Keane issues brutal verdict of Utd trio who’re all at risk of being sold

Like each and every Manchester United fan watching on Friday evening, Roy Keane was hugely dissatisfied with what he saw from the side against Chelsea.
A 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge marked the Red Devils’ 18th loss of the Premier League campaign whilst also confirming they will go an entire season without winning back-to-back matches for the first time in the competition’s history.
United have now lost three successive games in the top flight, with their most recent victory – one of only 10 – coming in a 3-0 win on the road against an already relegated Leicester City on March 16.
Yet, supporters are biting their tongues over the complete despairing state of the club due to the prospect of lifting silverware in Wednesday’s Europa League final.
Defeating Tottenham Hotspur, who’ve endured an equally calamitous league season, in Bilbao will paper over the cracks of one of the most turbulent years in the side’s recent history, simultaneously booking their spot in the 2025/2026 Champions League first phase.

Of course, it begs the question as to how United’s situation will look should they fall at the final hurdle this week.
Even aside from the sheer humilation of such a dismal campaign, their lack of European football could easily deter a host of potential transfer targets; Liam Delap, INEOS’ first-choice No.9 signing, is said to be adamant about rubbing his shoulders with Europe’s elite when he departs Ipswich Town and his other suitors, Chelsea, could well have CL football to offer.
Outgoings will also be essential to getting rid of any players deemed surplus to requirements. Keane has a few in mind, although some fans are certain to dispute his stance.
When pressed by the Sky Sports panel on whether Ruben Amorim should do his utmost to keep hold of Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund in the coming months, the Irishman responded: “No. I wouldn’t be hanging my hat on them three to get Man United [back to the top].
“Mainoo comes on tonight – I watched him closely, and he’s strolling around the pitch. Some of his passes were sloppy.
“Garnacho is very kind of… he’s immature. He plays in little moments, but he doesn’t do enough. Again, we spoke before the programme. You want players for the big clubs who turn up week in, week out. And he doesn’t do that. He’s got a bit of talent. He makes some good runs, and he threatens it behind. And on his good day, you think, listen, I like what I see. But he’s got too many bad days.
“And Hojlund, in his defence, I think he should have probably been a backup striker, third or fourth choice and learn his trade off two or three brilliant strikers. The fact that when he came to the club, he was going to be the main man… he’s not good enough.
“He’s obviously lacking in confidence and belief. And he’s not surrounded by brilliance either. The problems that we’ve spoken about at United all season are still there. If people think they can fix that in one summer, then it’s not going to happen.”
