Blues are preparing for another season of Championship football in 2026/27
Birmingham City's first season back at Championship level was one of mixed fortunes, with the ambitious club recording its best finish for 10 years, whilst not exactly justifying the pre-season hype which surrounded Chris Davies' side at the same time.
Indeed, Blues were fancied, by many, to mount an immediate bid for the second tier play-off places as a result of further investment which had been provided by Knighthead, but they were very rarely in the conversation to achieve such feats.
As such, there will potentially be even more of a focus on developments at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park next season, with the Championship's play-off structure being expanded to between the positions of third and eighth, which could increase the club's chances of ending a long wait for Premier League football.
In order to be more consistent next season, Davies has already outlined that a handful of changes in terms of both incomings and outgoings are likely to take place.
With that in mind, Football League World have looked at how a dream start to the upcoming summer transfer window, which opens in mid-June, could look for those associated with Blues.

It remains to be seen if Blues will pursue a permanent move for Brighton and Hove Albion loanee, James Beadle, who endured mixed fortunes between the sticks after displacing Ryan Allsop in October.
Another man who has earned plenty of admirers this season in the Championship, though, and could potentially be available on loan is Radek Vitek of Manchester United.
The Czech shot-stopper scooped three awards at the end of the season with Bristol City, in which he kept 12 clean sheets in 41 matches, whilst also preventing over 5 more goals and boasting a save percentage of 71.3.
As such, it feels as though a goalkeeper of the 22-year-old's quality and potential is a must in terms of upcoming targets for Birmingham.

One criticism of Blues' recruitment in 2025/26 was a potential lack of Championship experience being targeted, something which Ethan Pinnock of Brentford certainly provides.
The Jamaican international will be entering the final year of his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium next month, potentially allowing for a handful of suitors, such as Blues, to strike a cut-price deal whilst having the potential funds to facilitate ESTIMATED wages of £30,000 per week.
Furthermore, Pinnock, who won the Championship play-off final with the Bees five years ago, was a January target for the Midlands club before they completed a short-term deal with Jonathan Panzo, so there is a strong hint of realism and ambition which would surround this deal.

Another man who is bound to be on a high priority section of Davies' transfer targets is Colombian powerhouse, Jhon Solis, who has impressed massively since joining on loan from Girona in January.
The 21-year-old's temporary switch to St. Andrew's was followed by reports of a somewhat complicated clause which allows for Blues to strike a permanent £6.9m deal based on appearances in terms of minutes played, and that number has reportedly been surpassed.
Given the steel and energy which Solis has provided in the middle of the park, as well as a well-taken finish versus Bristol City, he has already become a favourite with supporters, but the one concern is that clubs in the Premier League, such as Leeds United and Brentford, are said to have identified the highly-rated figure as a transfer target of their own

Much like with Solis, Davies has expressed a keenness to see Brighton loanee, Ibrahim Osman, remain as part of his squad for 2026/27.
The Ghanaian was signed by the Seagulls for £16m in February 2024, and has shown glimpses of exactly why that was the case, posting two goals and as many assists in 18 appearances.
Osman spent the first half of the season on loan with AJ Auxerre of Ligue 1 in a deal which included an option-to-buy clause. However, that is not the case in the move which took him from the AMEX Stadium to St. Andrew's.
However, many would argue that the 21-year-old may need further development in the Championship before becoming a regular fixture in Fabian Hurzeler's plans, and that is an opportunity which Birmingham cannot afford to miss if it arose.

The first of three potential outgoings which may not come as a surprise is that of left-back, Lee Buchanan.
Unfortunately for the 25-year-old, injuries and a relegation in his first season in B9 have negatively impacted his individual career in recent times, and with three years still left on his contract, it feels like the summer could be an ideal time for the club to recoup some of the fee given to Werder Bremen in July 2023 for his services.
With that being said, the former Derby County man would certainly go with the goodwill of supporters and Davies, who has hailed his professionalism in a recovery period which has lasted since December 2024.

Next up on the departure front is Japanese playmaker, Kanya Fujimoto, who has barely had the first season he would have envisaged after penning a three-year contract last summer.
The 26-year-old has made just five appearances in the Championship thus far, with all of those coming from the substitutes bench, leading to several questions about why he was recruited in the first place.
As such, it would be no surprise to see the youth international moving on as part of the changes which are set to occur at St. Andrew's over the coming weeks and months.

The final departee is Scottish winger, Scott Wright, who has also been hit by an unfortunate long-term injury during his time with Blues.
The former Rangers man sent supporters into raptures with a debut goal versus Wigan Athletic in August 2024, and had been an impressive figure throughout his opening months at the club before suffering an ACL blow at Reading last February.
His long-term recovery span, coupled with several arrivals in his right-wing position, saw Wright move on loan to Dundee FC in February, where he hasn't had much luck in terms of gametime.
Therefore, it seems as though the only outcome for all concerned this summer will be that the 28-year-old departs for a new challenge.
