Real Madrid appear to be gearing up for an important move in the winter transfer window, as reported by MARCA. The club is reportedly prioritising the signing of a right-back, with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold emerging as their primary target.
This decision stems from concerns within the club about relying solely on Lucas Vazquez to cover the position during the second half of the season.
While Vazquez has proven to be a reliable player, the club recognises the need for additional depth and quality in that area of the pitch.
The reports suggest that Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold is serious. After the match at Anfield, discussions reportedly took place between Liverpool and Real Madrid representatives, where Liverpool acknowledged Madrid’s intent.
While Liverpool remain calm, bolstered by the emergence of Conor Bradley as a potential successor, they may be bracing themselves for the potential departure of their homegrown star.

It is also reported that Liverpool initiated contact with Real Madrid weeks ago to clarify whether the interest in Alexander-Arnold was genuine or simply a tactic to pressure Liverpool into improving the terms of his contract renewal, which is set to expire in June.
These discussions reportedly continued recently, and as per English sources, Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid appears increasingly plausible, with many envisioning him in the famous white jersey.
For Real Madrid, the need for a specialist right-back is pressing. The club is aware that depending on Vazquez and occasional contributions from Federico Valverde in defence is not a sustainable solution.
Valverde’s presence in defence also diminishes his impact in midfield, where his creative playmaking is crucial.
Additionally, the academy currently lacks a ready-made player with enough experience to step into the role immediately, though there are promising talents for the future.
