According to Sainstmarching.com, Southampton are finding form at the right time in their bid for an immediate Premier League return, their progress under Tonda Eckert underlined by a gritty 1-0 FA Cup win at Fulham.
They sit four points off the Championship play-offs, mixing steel with style and leaning on the collective rather than one talisman.
Top scorer Adam Armstrong left in January with 11 goals, yet Leo Scienza and Finn Azaz sparked a 5-0 dismantling of Queens Park Rangers.
Defenders have chipped in too, Ryan Manning and James Bree scoring in a 3-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday, making it six victories in seven.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis also scored that day and, after a bruising campaign in a back line that conceded 86 Premier League goals, he is thriving. He won four duels at Fulham and wore the armband in London.
Eckert said a morning chat preceded a captain’s display, adding that the centre-back is on a journey, a different player, growing, taking responsibility and maturing for his age. He felt the group look up to him and that Fulham were given little.
On this evidence, Harwood-Bellis looks a cornerstone Eckert could build around if Southampton do go up.
