Southampton's transfer momentum has slowed, with Alfie Devine slipping away and a move for Jesse Derry looking unlikely. Supporters are also braced for Shea Charles to leave.

According to Sainstmarching.com, progress has been limited since Cyle Larin and Daniel Peretz arrived on permanent deals and George Long returned to St Mary's.

Tonda Eckert's side had pursued Tottenham youngster Devine after his eight-goal Championship campaign with Preston. Paul Heckingbottom's men have instead paid £6m to take the 21-year-old back to Preston North End, ending Southampton's hopes. Justin Devenny of Crystal Palace remains a midfield option under consideration.

In the forward line, Chelsea prospect Derry is poised to head to Sporting on a season-long deal in Liga Portugal rather than the South Coast. The 19-year-old has previously netted 33 goals across youth spells with Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

He would have offered another direct option from the left, easing the burden on Leo Scienza. Southampton are assessing further alternatives, with Lewis Dobbin among the attacking options being explored. Despite their Spygate troubles, the club still look an attractive destination, so there is no need to panic.
