More than a week has passed since tensions flared between Barcelona teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal.

After the final whistle in the first El Clasico of the season at the Santiago Bernabeu, which the hosts won 2-1, words were exchanged between Lamine and Carvajal, which sparked a huge melee between both teams.

Naturally, the incident raised concerns about how the two stars would fare together in the Spain camp, especially given that both are key players in the setup, and the World Cup is only months away.

Luis de la Fuente not worried

Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has spoken for the first time about the altercation that took place between Carvajal and Lamine after El Clasico.

The La Roja coach appeared completely relaxed about the possible impact of the incident on the national team’s dressing-room atmosphere. He believes the spat between the two regulars for Spain will not affect the group’s cohesion.

“There has never been any incident, any strange behaviour from anyone. There are no schoolyard fights. The feeling is one of family, of unity, prioritising the common good over individual gain. That says a lot about this group of footballers,” he said.

For that reason, De la Fuente sees no need to intervene or mediate between them, as he noted:

“I think that now it’s up to their clubs to talk; the people at their clubs are responsible. I’ve spoken a lot with Lamine, as well as with Dani Carvajal, and with everyone else.”

Rather than dwelling on the heated exchange seen at the end of El Clasico, where the two players argued and had to be separated by teammates, De la Fuente prefers to focus on a more positive memory that, for him, better reflects their relationship.

“I’ll always remember the European Championship, Lamine’s cross and Carvajal’s finish, the hug they shared, their faces, that’s what happens in the national team. I’m totally and absolutely convinced that the common good is what matters here,” he concluded.
