Federation rejects controversy after star’s injection during Turkey clash
Spain Federation Responds to Flick’s Criticism on Lamine Yamal’s Painkiller Use
The Spanish Football Federation's denied any tension with Barcelona over the handling of Lamine Yamal’s injury during the World cup 2026 qualifier against Turkey.
The teenager received painkiller injections to play which worsened hip issue and forced him out of Barca’s clash with Valencia.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick openly criticised Spain’s medical staff accusing them of risking the youngster’s health.
However according to Marca, the Federation insists its protocol's clear:
“players who feel discomfort leave camp and clubs are contacted when necessary”
The Federation highlighted that physio who treats Yamal with Spain is the same specialist working with him at Barcelona.
Officials argue that if any discomfort had been detected, the club would have been informed immediately.
Examples cited include Gavi, Fabian Ruiz & Yeremy Pino all of whom left the Spain squad when fitness issues arose. The Federation also stressed that Yamal himself gave "positive response" when asked about his fitness before facing Turkey.
Reports of Yamal’s frustration at being substituted were downplayed by the Federation who described it as normal reaction from young players eager to play full match.
