An emerging midfield talent has shown he is ready to join Liverpool.

Sporting director Richard Hughes is expected to prioritise strengthening the midfield in the next transfer window. However, much will depend on where Liverpool finish in the Premier League standings.

At present, qualification for the Champions League looks likely which will increase Liverpool's budget and pulling power.

Anfield Watch understands the club has already assembled an ambitious shortlist of midfield targets. Names under consideration include Warren Zaïre-Emery, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Kees Smit, Elliot Anderson, and Adam Wharton.

This is a group of midfielders Liverpool believe have what it takes to deliver straight away and offer a long-term basis for the Reds as well.

But they are not the only players on the club's shortlist.

Anfield Watch understands the club are huge admirers of Caleb Yirenkyi, and could be making a move for him in the summer.

Yirenkyi plays for FC Nordsjaelland and he only turned 20-years-old last month but already has over 40 appearances for the Danish club that has an impressive track-record of producing elite talent who have gone onto do well in Europe's top five leagues.

The youngster proved once again what an impressive player he is for Nordsjaelland in their victory over Aarhus in the Danish Superliga.

With Liverpool scouts in attendance, Yirenkyi was one of the best players on the pitch and put in a spectacular performance to help secure the three points for his side while plating out of position.

He covered vast swathes of ground and showcased exactly what he is about playing as a centre-back. The Ghanian won five out of eight aerial duels, created the most chances on the pitch (4), completed 54 out of 58 pass attempts, while also making nine recoveries and seven clearances.

It was a phenomenal performance, and once again showed just what a stupendous talent he is.

Only the very best players can make an impact in multiple positions. Yirenkyi's ability to dominate a game from centre-back shows just what he is about.

It also confirms that he's too good for this level and that he is ready for the step-up to a club like Liverpool, where he could become an extremely useful squad player.

More importantly, he also really fits into Liverpool's philosophy.

Yirenkyi is an energetic, all-action midfielder who thrives in multiple tactical setups. He looks equally comfortable in a possession-dominant side as he does in one that relies on aggressive, high pressing, making him a natural fit for modern systems.

His profile suggests he would adapt well to Arne Slot’s style of play. While he may not immediately establish himself as a guaranteed starter, he would be a valuable squad player.

There is growing uncertainty around several current options. Wataru Endo is expected to depart Anfield, while the long-term future of Curtis Jones remains unclear. In that context, bringing in a versatile player like Yirenkyi would be a logical step.
