A pivotal weekend tightened the relegation fight, Leeds drew Brentford, Aston Villa beat West Ham and Nottingham Forest won 3-0 at Tottenham. According to NY Times, West Ham remained in the bottom three, Forest climbed above Spurs and Leeds stayed 15th.
Leeds have cause for concern, four points clear yet short of form and short of goals. Home games against Wolves and Burnley look season-defining, two wins there would surely steady them. Spurs look the obvious fallers, although sacking Igor Tudor and appointing well could quickly change the picture.
Forest have lived with uncertainty since Ange Postecoglou’s eight-game stint ended in October, Vitor Pereira has sought calm. The win at Spurs eased nerves and momentum makes home games with Villa and Burnley feel pivotal, safety is not secured yet.
Spurs are anxious. Defeat to Forest wiped away encouragement from displays against Atletico Madrid and Liverpool, and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario will have hernia surgery in the break. Without a league win since 28 December, Wolves away on 25 April and Leeds at home soon after look decisive, fail to take six points and trouble would deepen.
West Ham are braced for both outcomes, relegation could prompt exits for Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville, survival would let Nuno build. April feels decisive, Wolves and Everton at home and Crystal Palace away, six points is minimum. Concern grew when Jean-Clair Todibo was injured in the warm-up and Freddie Potts stepped in, Summerville is expected back against Wolves after a calf problem.
