Credit to TBR Football for the original reporting that highlighted growing transfer attention around Ezri Konsa. The Aston Villa defender has become one of the most in-demand English centre backs in the Premier League, with several domestic and European giants monitoring his situation closely.
Konsa has grown into a composed, reliable and increasingly influential presence for Unai Emery. As noted in the original article, he has “emerged as one of England’s top defenders and has become integral to Villa under Unai Emery”. That rise has inevitably placed him on the radar of clubs with both domestic and European ambitions to maintain or strengthen title challenging squads.
TBR Football’s report stated that “Tottenham and Manchester City are among a number of sides keeping tabs on Ezri Konsa”. With Tottenham assessing their central defensive options as they plan for 2026, and Manchester City identifying long term successors in both central and wide defensive areas, Konsa fits the profile for both.

City already secured Sverre Nypan ahead of Villa in the summer and are reportedly lining up another attempt to test their Premier League rivals’ resolve. The article explains that “City are looking at options in defence, both central and at full-back, and we are told the fact that Konsa can play right-back adds an extra element of appeal to the Citizens.”
Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have also watched Konsa over a 12 month period, illustrating the widespread interest. One source close to the situation suggested that clubs view Konsa as a target who will hold long term value due to his age, versatility and proven Premier League consistency.
Interest is not limited to England. As stated in the original reporting, “There is some interest abroad as well, with Italian giants Inter Milan and Napoli watching Konsa, along with RB Leipzig.” That calibre of interest from Serie A and the Bundesliga demonstrates the growing continental respect for Konsa.
Villa are expected to resist offers. However, TBR Football highlighted that “whilst PSR concerns are a constant threat, other clubs believe they can lure some names away from Villa Park”. If Villa wish to avoid a transfer saga, securing Konsa on a new long term contract appears necessary.
Graeme Bailey summarised the situation clearly. “Ezri Konsa’s name is coming up quite a lot when you talk to clubs about potential defensive options.” He added, “Clearly, Villa do not want to sell but he has just over two years left on his deal, he is now one of England’s top defenders, and Villa are likely going to have to tie him down to a new deal.”
One Premier League recruitment analyst suggested that Konsa has evolved into a defender capable of excelling in possession heavy sides, saying, “Konsa reads the game exceptionally well and has cut out the errors from his early Villa years. He plays with calm, intelligence and authority, which is why elite clubs feel he can take another step.”
From a Tottenham Hotspur perspective, this development prompts both excitement and realism. Spurs fans have seen improvements in the defensive unit under Thomas Frank, especially in structure, discipline and the first phase of build up. However, adding a defender with Konsa’s profile could elevate that progression further. His comfort both at centre back and right back would suit Frank’s fluid system which values defenders who can step into midfield and support possession.
There will be concern over competition from Manchester City. Spurs supporters will recall similar transfer races that ended with City securing the player. That said, Tottenham now offer an attractive project, a state of the art stadium, a manager who improves players and a clear pathway to becoming a key starter rather than a squad option.
The PSR mention opens a small door of opportunity. If Villa need to sell, Spurs should position themselves early. Fans would expect Daniel Levy and Johan Lange to act proactively rather than reactively. Konsa is homegrown, Premier League proven and entering his peak years. If Tottenham want to move from top four hopefuls to regular trophy challengers, these are exactly the types of signings required.
Supporters would likely welcome Konsa without hesitation. He brings reliability, leadership traits and tactical versatility. If a reasonable fee becomes achievable, most Spurs fans would urge the club to act decisively rather than hesitate, especially with major rivals circling the same target.
