Stewart Donald replied to fellow Sunderland owner Juan Sartori after a superb win at Everton kept European hopes alive.

Sunderland Echo reports that Donald responded on Facebook following the result. Sunderland came from behind on Merseyside, with Brian Brobbey, Enzo Le Fée and Wilson Isidor scoring after the break.

Sartori, who remains part of the ownership group, was at Hill Dickinson Stadium. He shared a post with a photo alongside his daughter, writing: “That’s how you fight ’til the end @sunderlandafc. One to remember with Sasha”.

Donald replied in the comments: “Maybe Europe, Juan. So pleased for you - hope to catch up soon”. He also added a flexed-arm emoji and an OK hand gesture.

Their exchange was notable given their roles in recent years. Donald led the 2018 buyout from Ellis Short after relegation to League One, with Sartori joining alongside Charlie Methven. Donald later sold his majority, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus becoming chairman and majority shareholder in 2021, while Sartori stayed involved.

Sunderland now host Chelsea at the Stadium of Light on the final day with Europe still in play. They must win and rely on other results, with Brentford facing Liverpool and Brighton playing Manchester United.
