Brazil’s Superior Sports Court of Justice will hold a hearing on Thursday for Corinthians forward Memphis after he was seen using a mobile phone on the bench during the 1-1 draw with Flamengo at Neo Química Arena on 22 March.
Ge.globo first reported the hearing date. The complaint was filed on 26 March, four days after the clássico. Memphis has been cited under article 258 of the CBJD for conduct contrary to sporting discipline, which carries a suspension of one to six matches plus a fine.
Prosecutors argued that, as a high-profile player, Memphis could normalise device use among substitutes, weaken discipline, enable improper communications and hinder referees and organisers policing the rules.
The incident followed his withdrawal after 22 minutes with right thigh pain in the move that led to Corinthians’ equaliser. He visited the dressing room, returned for the second half, was then seen with the phone and was reprimanded by the coaching staff.
After the match he posted on X saying the phone was used only to contact the Netherlands’ national team medics, as he had been called for the March FIFA window. He added he left the dressing room to back his team and was unhappy with the result.
Two staff members, Leonardo Carnevale and Mauro da Silva, will also face judgement the same day under articles 243 or 258, after referee Rodrigo José Pereira de Lima reported offensive protests outside the officials’ dressing room. They risk suspensions of one to six matches and fines from R$100 to R$100,000.
