Stoke City have been linked with a move for Hull City midfielder Regan Slater
Stoke City have been linked with a move for Hull City midfielder Regan Slater, with Mark Robins bidding to bolster his squad during the off-season ahead of his first full campaign in charge at the Bet 365 Stadium.
As reported via X by TEAMtalk reporter Fraser Fletcher, the Potters are interested in Slater as they look to build upon last season's disappointing 18th-placed finish.
Stoke had three separate permanent managers in place throughout the course of the season in Steven Schumacher, Narcis Pelach and current boss Robins, who was appointed in December after leaving Championship rivals Coventry City, and narrowly avoided the drop by just two points, with Luton Town, Plymouth Argyle and Cardiff all going down to League One.
The Potters have spent a number of years in mid-table or lower, and the real threat of relegation that they faced for much of the previous campaign is a significant concern.
It will be crucial, then, ahead of what promises to be an even more competitive Championship campaign next time around owing to the strength of two of the newly-promoted sides in big-spending duo Birmingham City and Wrexham, to get it right in the transfer market this summer and push up the table.
According to Fletcher's update, Slater is a player of interest to Stoke.
It appears as though Stoke's admiration is not by any means at an advanced stage just yet, with Fletcher stating that the Potters' interest is nothing more than that right now.
For now at least, Hull's stance on retaining Slater as he heads into the final year of his current contract at the MKM Stadium remains unclear.
A dependable and seasoned performer at Championship level, Slater has made 149 appearances across all competitions since signing for the Tigers from Sheffield United in January 2022, having previously spent the 2020/21 League One campaign on loan in East Yorkshire as the side returned to the second-tier at the first attempt.
The 25-year-old, who can operate in a variety of midfield positions, featured in all but two of Hull's 46 Championship encounters in 24/25, starting on 36 occasions and registering one goal and one assist.
It's not the first time Stoke have been linked with a move for Slater, with reports back in April claiming that the Blades academy product was of interest to the Potters as well as Derby County.
As aforementioned, Slater has one year remaining on his present terms at Hull, a factor which could potentially allow Stoke to land his services in a cut-price deal if the Tigers are not intent on renewing his contract.
And, as per Capology estimates, Slater's salary is also an affordable one as far as Stoke are concerned.
The midfielder is estimated to be collecting a weekly wage of £10,000 at Hull, which makes this a cost-effective move if Stoke can get a deal over the line in the coming weeks while negotiating a similar contract to what he's on with the Tigers.
