Stones: We back ourselves 100% | OneFootball

John Stones says he and his City team-mates back themselves 100% with the battle for silverware on four fronts now underway.

The Blues are looking to add a fifth consecutive Premier League title having achieved an unprecedented fourth topflight crown last season.

Stones says complacency is not a concern for a team that has won everything over the past few years – only an increased desire to win more trophies.

“There’s a long road ahead,” said Stones.

“I will say that we back ourselves 100%. One of our strongest qualities is only focusing on us and not the noise around everything, especially towards the end of the season.

“Rightly so, there should be noise because you never know what is going to happen towards the end, but we are always respectful to whoever we are playing.

“We have that belief that we can go and do it again and again. When you win something [the hunger] only grows stronger.

“The aim is to win everything. The first one was the Community Shield. We’ve always got to look to better ourselves.

“We set the bar so high and to be there fighting right until the end every year is something so special. I think we have to keep pushing and trying to achieve more and do one better than we have in previous seasons.”

Stones also says the team and way of playing is constantly evolving.

Tweaking formations and positions is key, he says, to trying to keep one step ahead of our rivals.

“We need to expect different systems and tactics,” said Stones.

“Pep is a genius at what he does and how he sets up differently for every team. There are always little aspects that we will work on for the strengths of the opponent and how we can exploit their weaknesses.

“[Pep] said that over the summer he has been thinking about how we can improve and what he ideas he can bring to us as a team.”

And though he was an unused sub as City opened the new campaign with a 2-0 win at Chelsea, Stones was mightily impressed with the performance of his team-mates at Stamford Bridge.

“I think to not have a fully fit team, and to see how the boys ran, the way that we played - and obviously there is so much to improve on - what a start, what a way to kick off against such a good team,” he said.

“To go there and get a clean sheet at somewhere that is not an easy place to go, against a team with new players and a new manager, is a great start for us.”
