Stuart Harvey has praised Sunderland’s resurgence after being appointed Stoke City’s technical director in the Championship.
In a LinkedIn post, Harvey said a period away from a full-time club role helped him re-energise and learn, and he thanked those who supported him through consultancy work, data study and club visits.
He left Sunderland earlier this year amid major off-field changes, with Florent Ghisolfi now leading the club’s football operation. Harvey had worked alongside Kristjaan Speakman through a transformative rebuild from League One back to the Premier League.
That rise has continued impressively, with Sunderland finishing seventh under Régis Le Bris and securing Europa League qualification for the first time in over 50 years.
Looking ahead, Harvey described Stoke as a proud club with a strong history and a long Premier League spell. He thanked John Coates and Jonathan Walters, and said the challenge is big but exciting as he aims to help the club move forward.
