Kicker reports that VfB Stuttgart are prepared to terminate the contracts of loan returnees “Silas” Katompa Mvumpa and Juan Jose Perea. The two attackers – both of whom have struggled with injury – maintain no prospects with their current Bundesliga outfit. In the case of Silas, a stern commitment to rehabilitation training this summer simply isn’t good enough.
If buyers cannot be found for either player, Stuttgart will simply give the pair outright releases this summer. Both Silas and Perea did enjoy some success in their recent loan stints. The former excelled at Red Star Belgrade before incurring injury this past April. The latter has raised his estimated market value up to €2m after productive loan outs to Hansa Rostock and FC Zürich.
Stuttgart hope to obtain €8m for Congo Dr international Silas, essentially offsetting the amount they paid Paris FC to acquire him in August 2019. The same applies to Colombian forward Perea, purchased for €2.4m from PAS Giannina in July 2022. Per Kicker, however, neither player generates interest in these price ranges or any other.
Again, the injury history of the pair plays a role. Silas’ ankle break is the latest injury setback for the 26-year-old. Perea’s recent ACL tear renders him a long-term liability. Should Stuttgart’s continued attempts to shop Silas and Perea produce nothing, the club will simply have to get them off the payroll.
