Yesterday we reported on the news starting to leak out that Bournemouth were very interested in Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. Well today we’ve got further confirmation of that.
It was Dominik Schneider who put out the reports yesterday that our backup keeper is “set to join Bournemouth” with the club having “reached an agreement with Chelsea.” It was all very convincing – but we’ve been waiting to hear the same from a bigger source.
Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet about Bournemouth interest in Djordje Petrovic.
In the last hour, we’ve had just that confirmation. Fabrizio Romano has just Tweeted out that Bournemouth have indeed “submitted an opening official bid” and that negotiations are “ongoing.” Petrovic is said to be “keen on the move.”
Romano also shuts down last week’s rumours about Sunderland interest, saying “nothing was done or close” with the Black Cats, despite reporting to the contrary at the time. It seems there is plenty of interest in Petrovic, it’s just not quite as advanced as some of the more excited reporters are claiming. Regardless, he should get a move sooner rather than later, and we can kick off an important summer of sales from a squad that is bloating out once again.
There is reportedly a “gentleman’s agreement” between Chelsea and Petrovic that he can leave for £25m, but given the number of teams interested from the Premier League we would certainly be hoping to get a little more here.
It’s not going to prove to be a very popular transfer with many Chelsea fans, who would like to see the Serbian stopper given a chance in our first team. Many of them rate him far higher than Robert Sanchez, who continues to disappoint in big moments.
