Sunderland's Wilson Isidor believes he has joined the biggest club in the North East.

Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor has opened up on how much he is enjoying his time at the Stadium of Light, as he claimed he is at the biggest club in the region.

The 24-year-old joined the Black Cats on loan from Zenit in the summer window, and after taking time to build up his fitness, he has started to show his quality in recent weeks, scoring two in two ahead of tonight’s game against Leeds United.

Even though it’s early days, Isidor is looking like a shrewd addition for Sunderland, and it appears he is very happy to have made the move to Wearside.

That’s after he told the BBC just how grateful he is for the support he has received from the fans, as he made it clear he thinks they are better than local rivals Newcastle.

“Sunderland fans, they are amazing, they give me a lot of confidence and I receive a lot of messages every day. Today, even they say ‘you will score, you will score, you will score’.

“When people give you this confidence, it helps you. For me, it is the biggest club in the North East of England. It’s just crazy, I love this club and until I am here, I will give everything for them.”

Of course, this debate always rages on between the two clubs, but it certainly won’t do Isidor’s popularity any harm that he has come out and said this.

But, it also shows just how much he appreciates the fans for how they have treated him following his arrival in the summer.

It was a very big move for the player, as he was joining a new club in a different country, and it is his first experience of English football, so it can always be difficult for players to adapt.

Yet, the Sunderland fans have clearly helped by the way they have got behind the new recruit, and he has repaid that backing with some impressive performances, and he is crucially off the mark for his new club with two goals in his last two starts.

For a striker, that’s what you want, and it will give Isidor the confidence to kick-on and to establish himself as a key figure for Regis Le Bris’ side this season as they push for promotion.

Given their excellent start, promotion has to be the aim for the Black Cats this season, and it’s that ambition which will have convinced Isidor to make the move to the Stadium of Light.

The French youth international has had a very interesting career so far, having featured for Monaco before moving to Lokomotiv Moscow and Zenit, so he is someone that clubs clearly feel has a lot of talent.

But, he will be looking to settle, and earning a permanent deal with Sunderland after helping them to promotion is no doubt what he wants.

There were plenty of unknowns surrounding Sunderland going into this season, but the players appear to have bought into what the manager wants, and the fans are enjoying how it’s going.
