Sunderland’s agent-fee spending rose fivefold after promotion yet remained among the Premier League’s smallest, FA figures show.
The data covers February 2025 to February 2026, spanning the two windows since their Wembley win and including contract renewals agreed during the year.
The club’s outlay jumped from their final Championship season but was still one of the division’s lowest. Burnley recorded the smallest total, and Everton were the only other side to spend less than Sunderland.
Sunderland also spent less than fellow promoted Leeds United, and well below several clubs around them in the table. Bournemouth and Brighton were far higher, while Newcastle United spent just over 20 million.
Chelsea topped the Premier League for agent-fee spending. The figures also reflect costs tied to 17 signings and renewals for Trai Hume, Eliezer Mayenda, Luke O’Nien and Chris Rigg, counting any transaction involving an FA-registered intermediary.
