Sunderland Banksy teen finds voice with SAFC spray-paint art after epilepsy diagnosis | OneFootball

A non-verbal autistic teenager with epilepsy has found renewed confidence by channelling his emotions into SAFC-themed spray-paint art. According to Sunderland Echo, his mother says the creative outlet has given him his life back.

Jack, 19, is severely autistic. His seizures began at 14, including one at the Stadium of Light during a Black Cats fixture, and he was later diagnosed with drug-resistant epilepsy.

Guided by Durham Spray Paints owner Lewis Hobson, Jack turned to aerosol art because a medication-related tremor means he can no longer use a brush. He has launched a Facebook page, Purple Brain Creations, to share his work.

His SAFC series features captain Granit Xhaka and favourite Luke O’Nien, with pieces now hanging in the Cambridge Pub. Regulars there have nicknamed him the Sunderland Banksy, and supporters’ group leads Steven and Rachel Usher have backed his progress.

Jack’s latest piece captures Enzo Le Fee and his Spiderman-inspired celebration at Everton. Familiar themes help him focus, and his love of Spiderman has made Le Fee his favourite player.

Sara credits Hobson’s patience and professionalism for nurturing a distinctive style, while consultant Dr Steele is pleased painting is helping Jack manage his condition. The 24NE Gallery in Sunderland has also been in touch about displaying his work.
