Sunderland have begun addressing season-ticket concerns, with several fans offered solutions after direct contact from the club.
According to Sunderland Echo, issues escalated last month when long-serving supporters could not move from corporate packages to general admission, alongside direct debit and ticketing problems. The shift follows the club telling RAWA it would review cases and contact fans.
One case involves Steven Poppleton, who has followed Sunderland for 40 years. After his father George died, he sought to switch from the premium 76 Yards area to general admission, an upgrade originally made for mobility needs. He was initially told to join the season-ticket waiting list despite his long service.
Poppleton said the club phoned on Friday to apologise and offered his family general admission seats. He added that RAWA raised his case, with support from the Branch Liaison Council, and thanked those who highlighted it online. He hopes others in similar positions are helped soon.
Other supporters have also received encouraging updates, including next season access and recognition of existing loyalty discounts in at least one case. Not every situation is resolved, but the movement suggests the club has started to act.
Wider complaints included loyalty not being recognised, rises in corporate hospitality that priced some out, and concerns for elderly fans and direct debits. RAWA’s meeting with club representatives was described as constructive and the club is understood to have accepted the need to improve ticketing and work through cases.
