Sunderland are tracking Lucas Stassin, Lutsharel Geertruida and Emil Holm, with Porto in talks over Stassin, according to Sunderland Echo.
The 21-year-old Saint-Etienne striker impressed in Ligue 2 last season, scoring 11 and supplying eight assists in 31 games, and is expected to move this summer. He is among the forwards linked with the Black Cats.
Saint-Etienne are said to have rejected early approaches and set a €35million fee plus €7million in add-ons, roughly £29.9million plus £6million, about £35.9million in total. Porto are now understood to be in concrete discussions, which could complicate any Sunderland move.
Porto won the league title last season and can offer a major European platform. Sunderland would also fit the step up he is believed to be seeking, with a Premier League campaign under Régis Le Bris and Europa League football ahead.
Stassin has progressed through Belgium’s youth sides and has been capped at senior level. His age, profile and output match Sunderland’s model of signing players who can improve quickly and retain resale value.
The club remain active elsewhere, with Florent Ghisolfi looking to drive down the price for Geertruida after his loan from RB Leipzig. The Dutch defender is rated around £20million and is currently at the World Cup. Sunderland have also been linked with Bologna’s Sweden international Holm, who spent last season on loan at Juventus and is valued between £10million and £20million, after recruiting Nordi Mukiele and Omar Alderete in that bracket last year.
