Sunderland have been handed a major lift as 18-year-old striker Finn Geragusian signed his first professional contract, despite strong transfer interest, with Rangers among the clubs monitoring him.

According to Sunderland Echo, he struck 13 goals in the academy last season while often stepping up for the U21s, following 19 goal contributions in 2024/25.

His 2025/26 campaign was cut short by injury, yet the club were determined to keep him. The Armenia international has chosen to remain on Wearside, and academy manager John Hewitson said the club were delighted and praised his progress and attitude.

Geragusian thanked coaches and staff at the Academy of Light, as well as his family, and said he is proud and eager for more positive experiences this season.

He has trained regularly with the senior squad through 2026. He could have further chances in pre-season, which Régis Le Bris views as often the best time to integrate. In April the head coach said youth caps were a positive and stressed development in the right environment, but felt it was still a bit early for Premier League minutes amid strong competition in his position.
