Sunderland are in talks over a move for Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo as they seek a right-sided attacker. According to Sunderland Echo, discussions are ongoing and no agreement has been reached.
The 25-year-old Mozambique international can operate as a winger or wing-back, and has been identified to strengthen Régis Le Bris’ options under sporting director Florent Ghisolfi.
Catamo joined Sporting’s academy from Amora in 2019 and made his senior debut against Portimonense in December 2021. After loans with Vitória Guimarães and Marítimo, he returned to become a regular, scoring 21 goals in 130 appearances, including seven in 2025-26 and a 2-1 derby brace against Benfica in 2023-24.
He signed a five-year contract in December 2023 that includes a €60million, roughly £51.4million, release clause. Sporting’s asking price this summer may differ from that clause.
Born in Maputo, he debuted for Mozambique in 2019 with a goal against Mauritius and featured in their first Africa Cup of Nations win, against Gabon in December 2025. His pace, direct running and ability to beat defenders would add variety in attack as Sunderland prepare for the Premier League and Europa League, and he is an international team-mate of left-back Reinildo Mandava.
